A new study finds there was an effect—but it was a small one. At issue are the audits that publicly traded companies are required to get each year. The auditors closely examine a company’s books and—if everything seems above board—sign off on a company’s financial statements, stating they believe the statements are accurate within a material margin of error. However, starting in 2019, auditors are also required to disclose any aspects of…

You can’t manipulate someone’s first impression of you – that is true both for in-person and digital networking. Just like on a dating app, we decide in milliseconds if we find a LinkedIn business connection worthy of our time, or not, based on their profile picture.Does the photo make this person seem kind, intelligent, and open to networking? Or do they look like they’d be a relentless braggart, a personality vacuum, or even someone who’d remind you too much of an uptight former boss? Before you even reach out to connect or send them a direct message, you’ve already created a…

Traditionally, creating an n-of-n multisig using CHECKMULTISIG means you’ll publish a proportional number of signatures and public keys on the blockchain to signers in the transaction. This approach not only reveals the total number of participants in the transaction, but also incurs progressively higher transaction fees as the number of signers grow. MuSig, on the other hand, allows a group of users to collectively generate a single signature and public key to validate a transaction, which enhances privacy and lowers the transaction costs for all the signers involved. When MuSig was initially introduced in 2018, its main shortcoming compared to…

The global impact of the coronavirus pandemic has ignited a renewed focus on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. Researchers at Osaka Metropolitan University are making great strides in combating pneumococcal pneumonia, one of the leading causes of respiratory deaths worldwide. Despite the existence of vaccines against pneumococcal infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, and meningitis, the prevalence of pneumococcal pneumonia remains high. This situation underscores the need for a more versatile…
