Dua Jafri, a student at City of Glasgow College, received the 2026 Betsy Miller Award for her outstanding commitment to cultural awareness and support within the cadet cohort.
She was recognised for her leadership in organising and supporting inclusive cultural events, such as a Diwali celebration that fostered understanding among cadets and staff.
Peers said the event “promoted unity, mutual respect and cultural awareness, strengthening bonds among cadets and peers from diverse backgrounds.”
Dua also contributed significantly to the organisation of a Grand Iftar during Ramadan, which encouraged participation and learning among the wider student body.
Her efforts contributed to what college staff described as “a more respectful and inclusive environment, both within College and during training activities.”
Dua said: “I am truly honoured to receive the Betsy Miller Award 2026 on my graduation day.
“A moment which means more to me than my words can explain, grateful for every step, every lesson and everyone who’s been part of it.
“This is a proud moment that reflects hard work, growth and the journey behind it all.”
The Betsy Miller Award includes a £350 voucher sponsored by Seapeak.
Dua’s award will be presented at a graduation ceremony next Thursday at Glasgow Cathedral, where City of Glasgow College will recognise the achievements of its maritime cadets as they begin their professional journeys.
