A West Belfast woman has received a suspended prison sentence after falsely claiming nearly £6,000 in benefits.

Nateesha De Brun, 29, of Coolnasilla Park East, was convicted at Laganside Magistrates’ Court after being found to have claimed Universal Credit totallying £5,982, while failing to declare that she was working.

She received a three month prison sentence suspended for a year with her conviction coming following a fraus investigation by the Department for Communities.

De Brun has also been ordered to repay the money she wrongfully claimed.

A Department for Communities spokesperson said: “Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously. Find out more at: www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/benefit-fraud.”
