A section of Western Road in Hove, outside the Tesco store, was closed this evening while emergency services worked to free the bird from netting on the top of a building.
Onlookers watched as a firefighter, holding the once trapped animal, brought the seagull back down to the ground using an aerial platform where colleagues helped to remove the netting.
A spokeswoman from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 5.43pm on July 17 to reports of a seagull stuck in netting at a premises on Western Road, Hove.
“Crews from Preston Circus attended, along with the aerial ladder platform, to release the seagull and left the scene at 6.33pm.”
