A Chinese New Year celebration will take over Glasgow this weekend.

To mark the beginning of the Lunar New Year, Glasgow City Chambers will host an event, launching a 15-day festival.

On Sunday, February 2, the closed-door civic reception will include a lion dance and more entertainment.

Prominent buildings across the city will also light up in red.

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important festival events in the Chinese calendar.

The Lunar Year 2025, which starts on Wednesday 29 January, celebrates the Year of the Snake, concluding with the Lantern Festival on Wednesday, February 12.

The Year of the Snake is said to symbolise wisdom and transformation and is seen as very important in offering opportunities for personal growth and change.
