“Last night, eight fire engines swiftly responded to a fire incident, prompting evacuations of nearby residences and businesses.
The fire originated in the basement of a hostel adjacent to Brighton’s Royal Albion hotel, erupting just before 9 pm. Firefighters cordoned off a section of pavement on Grand Junction Road as they battled the flames inside the building.
Arriving with urgency, fire engines illuminated the scene on A259 and Pool Valley, reminiscent of the Royal Albion fire last year on July 15th. A spokesperson for the fire service stated, “We received reports of smoke at a residential building on Grand Junction Road at 8:54 pm. Seven appliances and an aerial ladder platform were dispatched. The fire in the basement area was swiftly extinguished, and all individuals were safely evacuated with no reported injuries.”
Fire crews from across the region, including Kent, Surrey, and for the first time since World War II, London, responded to the blaze at the historic Grade II listed Royal Albion. Black smoke billowed across the area as firefighters battled the flames, working exhausting 13-hour shifts. The fire, fueled by high winds, spread rapidly through the hotel’s floors, necessitating ongoing demolition of the severely damaged west wing.
