Lupita Nyong’o appeared on the latest episode of *Hot Ones* and went through the usual hot wing challenge, discussing a variety of topics along the way.

The 41-year-old Kenyan-Mexican actress touched on acting with a cat despite her fear of cats, how she’d handle an apocalypse, Jay-Z using her name in a rap song, and her connection to Taylor Swift.

Nyong’o shared a story from her time working on the film *Little Monsters*. When producers couldn’t clear the rights to a Taylor Swift song, she decided to reach out to Swift herself. “I told her what the song meant to me and how it lifted me from an almost depression,” Nyong’o explained. Shortly after, they received permission to use the song.

She elaborated, “While working in London on *Star Wars*, I was filled with self-doubt and getting a bit depressed. My best friend played ‘Shake It Off’ for me, and we danced on my bed, which really lifted my spirits.”

Thanks to her pitch, Swift’s song was featured in the 2019 horror comedy. Nyong’o expressed her gratitude during an interview with *ET* at the film’s release. “I didn’t hear from her personally, but when we got the song, I knew she heard me. Taylor Swift, thank you so much. I hope you see the movie and feel that I took care of your song.”
