Easy Funfetti Cake Batter Dip

Making this dip is a fun and delicious trip down memory lane, too (who remembers Dunk-a-Roos?). It’s so simple to whip up using a handful of ingredients, and it’s a real crowd-pleaser.

Serve it with fresh fruit like strawberries and apple slices, or go the crunchy route with pretzels, graham crackers, and cookies. Folks, this versatile dip pairs with pretty much everything.

I loooove serving this Funfetti cake dip at parties because it’s a guaranteed hit. It’s that perfect mix of childhood nostalgia and grown-up sophistication, making it just as suitable for a kids’ birthday party dip as it is for holiday gatherings like Memorial Day barbecues and a festive 4th of July bash.

Pair it with any of my Memorial Day recipes and the dishes in this 4th of July recipes collection for a super fun and stress-free celebration.

Why Make This Recipe

  • It’s Quick and Easy – Requiring just a few simple ingredients and minimal preparation. It’s perfect for those times when you need a last-minute dessert or snack option.
  • It’s versatile and fun – Swap out the sprinkles and customize the dippers to make this dessert dip perfect for any occasion. Serve along with other 4th of July appetizers for a festive spread.
  • It’s convenient – The dip can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator, so it’s a great solution for busy hosts.

Ingredient Notes

  • Cream Cheese – Cream cheese provides a creamy and tangy base for the dip. You can use reduced-fat cream cheese for a lighter option.
  • Whipped Topping – Whipped topping, like Cool Whip, adds lightness and fluffiness to the dip. You can use whipped cream as a substitute, but it may result in a slightly different texture.
  • Milk – Helps make the dip the perfect creamy consistency. You can use any type of milk you prefer, including dairy-free options like almond or soy milk.
  • White Cake Mix – The key ingredient that gives this dip its cake batter flavor. Make sure to heat the cake mix before using it in the recipe to ensure food safety. If you prefer, you can use a yellow cake mix or a Funfetti cake mix for even more sprinkles.
  • Sprinkles – Red, white, and blue sprinkles add a festive touch to the dip, perfect for Memorial Day and 4th of July celebrations. You can use different colors of sprinkles to customize for any occasion or omit them altogether.
  • Dippers – Feel free to get creative with your choice of dippers, such as strawberries, pineapple chunks, apple slices, cookies, pretzels, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, or graham crackers. The possibilities are endless!

How To Make Funfetti Dip

Get complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card further below.

Step 1. Make the cake mix safe for raw consumption by microwaving it in 30-second intervals until it reaches 160 degrees F / 71 degrees C, or spread it on a baking sheet and put it in a 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C oven for about 5 minutes. Then combine the cake mix, cream cheese, and milk and blend until creamy.

Step 2. Fold in the whipped topping, being careful not to overmix, as that may cause the dip to deflate.

Step 3. Next, gently fold the red, white, and blue sprinkles into the mixture.

Step 4. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and top with additional sprinkles. Serve with fruit, cookies, crackers, and pretzels for dipping.

Tips For Success

  • It’s important to heat the cake mix as directed in the recipe and allow it to cool completely before including in the recipe.
  • Bring the cream cheese to room temperature so it’s easy to incorporate.
  • Be sure to completely thaw frozen whipped topping before using.
  • Use a stand mixer or handheld electric mixer to get that light and airy texture we all love.
  • Gently fold in the sprinkles after mixing in the whipped topping to avoid overmixing. This will help the sprinkles retain their color and shape in the dip.
  • For the best texture and flavor, chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the dip to firm up slightly.
  • Offer a fun selection of dippers, such as fruit, cookies, pretzels, or graham crackers to provide a range of flavors and textures for dipping.

Delicious Variations

  • Chocolate Funfetti Dip – Use a chocolate cake mix instead of white cake mix for a chocolatey twist. You can also add some mini chocolate chips to the dip for extra chocolate flavor.
  • Add Mix-ins – Stir in chunks of fresh fruit, crumbled cookies, crackers, or chopped nuts to add more interest to the dip.
  • Make for Any Holiday – Use different colored sprinkles to make this Funfetti dip perfect for any holiday. I love to make this as a Christmas treat with red and green sprinkles.
  • Gluten-Free – Use a gluten-free cake mix to make this dip gluten free. Ensure that all other ingredients, such as the sprinkles and dippers, are also gluten free.

Prep And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Bring cream cheese to room temperature and thaw the whipped topping.
  • Store – Store leftover cake batter dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze – Freezing is not recommended.
