Today, The Acorn in Burgess Hill town center is closing its doors, slated to be taken over by the neighboring Premier Inn.

Whitbread, the parent company of Premier Inn and Beefeater restaurant, cited declining customer numbers and reduced sales as reasons for the site’s transformation into a hotel restaurant.

A spokesperson for Beefeater and Premier Inn explained that the repurposed space will be used to expand hotel room offerings. In a communication to patrons, the company stated, “We’re announcing changes to some of our restaurants, including The Acorn, Beefeater in Burgess Hill, which will transition into a Premier Inn restaurant exclusively serving hotel guests from July 5 onwards.”

Dominic Paul, CEO of Whitbread, emphasized the company’s robust financial position and extensive property portfolio, enabling them to add 3,500 new hotel rooms to meet growing guest demand nationwide. He highlighted the plan as a positive move to enhance guest experiences and solidify their leading position in the UK market.

The Acorn, currently located on Charles Avenue, Burgess Hill, will be replaced by a restaurant integrated into the adjacent Premier Inn.

Whitbread, besides owning Beefeater and Premier Inn, also operates other restaurant brands such as Table Table and Brewer’s Fayre.

The closure of The Acorn is part of Whitbread’s broader strategy, with 112 sites set to shutter. This year alone, their restaurant division has faced losses totaling £19 million.
