In part 1, we spoke about funding barriers, bias in AI and the need for real workplace backing for women in tech. Founders described receiving less than 2% of UK venture capital, AI leaders spoke about exclusion in development teams, and executives said policies mean little without day to day support. In 2025, all women founding teams accounted for 5.6% of global venture capital deals and received just 1.4% of total funding, according to more data, this time from Aurora Tech Awards. To say that the gap is due to a lack of ideas would simply be untrue. It is…

The $7 million in annual recurring revenue that Cluely co-founder and CEO Roy Lee shared with TechCrunch last summer was a lie, Lee admitted on Thursday on X. Wrote Lee, this “is the only blatantly dishonest thing i’ve said publicly online, so this is my formal retraction.” Yet his post on X also misrepresents the backstory of how and why he told TechCrunch his ARR in the first place. Lee says in that same post that he “got a random cold call from some woman asking about numbers and told her some bs, did not expect an article about it.”…

Hackers have reportedly broken into the networks of the FBI. On Thursday, citing an anonymous source, CNN reported that the breach affected a system used to manage wiretaps and foreign intelligence surveillance warrants. “The FBI identified and addressed suspicious activities on FBI networks, and we have leveraged all technical capabilities to respond,” a bureau spokesperson told TechCrunch, declining to provide more details. This is the latest major breach of U.S. government agencies and American companies in recent times. Last year, Chinese hackers broke into the U.S. Treasury and the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees the security of the U.S.…
Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), working with international collaborators, have discovered that ocean temperature patterns play a key role in limiting how widely droughts spread across the globe. Their findings, published in Communications Earth & Environment, are based on climate records spanning 1901-2020. The analysis shows that synchronized droughts typically affect only 1.8% to 6.5% of Earth’s land at the same time. This is far lower than earlier suggestions that as much as one sixth of the planet could experience drought simultaneously. The research team examined how droughts begin in different parts of the world and…

While you could previously only use the app as a backup remote, the updated experience lets you browse and discover content directly from your phone, manage your watchlist on the go, and play titles on your TV from the mobile app. “The updated app turns smartphones into a second screen for discovering what to watch next, making it easy to add a friend’s show recommendation to a watchlist even when away from home,” Amazon wrote in an email to TechCrunch. “This…
