An angry crowd formed outside a block of flats on Lamlash Crescent in Cranhill on Tuesday, July 7, with people shouting “beast” at the property as police tried to keep them back.
Officers formed a guard around the building, and The Glasgow Times understands two men were removed from the address under police protection.

Footage shared on social media, including several livestreams, showed protesters surrounding a police van and chanting at officers, with one man heard saying: “You are just as bad as them, protecting a beast.”

Witnesses also claimed the windscreen of a police vehicle was smashed during the unrest.
Several officers were seen with batons drawn as they worked to control the crowd and cordoned off a large section of the road.

An eyewitness said police, ambulance and fire crews were called, adding that Bellrock Street and Stepps Road were closed, causing traffic disruption around Queenslie Estate and halting buses.

Plainclothes officers were also at the scene, while a police helicopter circled overhead. The eyewitness claimed two arrests were made and that a family was removed from the block on safety grounds.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that Police Scotland asked them to assist with the unrest.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.05pm on Tuesday, 7 July, we received a report of a protest and disturbance in the Lamlash Crescent area of Glasgow. Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was arrested. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed that Police Scotland asked them to assist with the unrest.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called by police requesting assistance at Lamlash Crescent in Cranhill at 16:35. One appliance was mobilised and we left the incident at 17:28.”
By around 5.45 pm, the road had reopened and police had begun to disperse the remaining crowd.
