John Mackie had been driving with his wife in the Glenboig area when a Land Rover in front of his vehicle suffered a sudden loss of power and started to fill with smoke.

The Land Rover’s central locking system stopped the doors from opening, so John used a golf club from his own car to smash a window and free Kodi, aged four, and Brian, aged 11 months old.

He did this just minutes before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
