Gillingham will discover their final group-stage opponents for the 2026/27 EFL Trophy when the draw takes place on Thursday.
The Gills have been placed in Southern Group G alongside newly promoted League 1 side Cambridge United and League 2 rivals Northampton Town, with a Premier League academy side set to complete the group.
Arsenal, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Ipswich Town and Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s are the potential opponents for Gareth Ainsworth’s side.
A total of 64 clubs will compete in the competition, including all League One and League Two teams and 16 invited academy sides from Premier League clubs with Category One status.
The group stage is split into 16 regional groups of four teams, with the top two from each group progressing to the knockout rounds.
Group-stage fixtures will begin in early September, with exact dates to be confirmed following the EFL fixture release.
The competition remains regionalised until the quarter-finals, while every match will be shown live on Sky Sports under the EFL’s current broadcasting agreement.
The final is scheduled to take place on April 11, 2027.
