Coatbridge has secured £19.5 million over the next 10 years through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Programme, with the first phase of work now officially approved.
Plans were developed with input from residents and are supported by an independent neighbourhood board in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.
The long-term investment aims to support young people, rejuvenate key attractions, and create a safer, more attractive town centre.
Gavin Whitefield, chair of the Coatbridge Neighbourhood Board, said: “This is a significant milestone for Coatbridge and a testament to the dedication of local people who helped shape this plan.
“Over the past two years, the community has told us clearly what matters most — from opportunities for young people to the future of the town centre — and this investment allows us to start delivering on those priorities.
“We are now focused on turning these plans into tangible improvements that people will begin to see over the coming months and years.”
The UK Government has now released an initial £6.6 million to begin delivery.
Early progress is already visible, following a community-led town centre spring-clean in April.
Residents, volunteers, and partners worked together to refresh planters and carry out litter-picking.
As part of the first phase, a new Coatbridge Community Empowerment Grant Fund has been launched, offering funding to local groups for projects and activities that benefit their neighbourhoods.
Additional small grant programmes are expected later this summer.
Plans are also underway for a dedicated Coatbridge Pride in Place website, where residents can stay updated on projects and learn how to get involved.
