Planning your vacation to the Balearic Islands? This Spanish archipelago of four islands is very diverse. It’s where beach towns meet mountain villages, modern villas overlook historical landmarks, and a world-renowned party reputation that’s only eclipsed by the scenic sunsets.

With so much to offer, choosing where you stay on Mallorca and Ibiza can influence your holiday experiences. Luxury villa rentals by Privadia are available in many of the islands’ hotspots. Discover which areas have just what you need to make this your Mediterranean paradise.

    Introducing Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the main capital of the Balearics and pearl of the Mediterranean. Palma shines as the gateway to the Balearic Islands. International arrivals via the Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) or the Puerto de Palma cruise terminal make it a first stop for most travellers, and a hard place to leave. Even without leaving town, your itinerary can look like afternoon tours at the La Sea Cathedral and Bellver Castle. Spend your beach days at Cala Major. Local or private transportation options make it easy to visit nearby resort towns, and a car rental is always recommended.

Beyond Palma, Mallorca has a very rich and varied landscape that caters to a wide spectrum of tastes and travel styles. From the dramatic cliffs and secluded coves of the north-western coastline to the serene countryside of the island’s interior and the touristic beach areas of the south-east, each region offers a distinct character and pace. Whether you are seeking tranquillity, cultural immersion, or vibrant coastal living, Mallorca is an island that can offer its visitors a very wide range of possibilities regarding landscape locations and activities for all ages. In the following sections, we will share further insights into these different areas that can help you find the ideal location for your luxury villa stay, as well as curate activities that best align with your preferences during your stay.

    Best for families: Alcudia

Alcúdia is often a favorite for families. The appeal? It’s easygoing and simple to get around. The nearby beaches, like Platja d’Alcúdia and Platja de Muro, stand out for their calm, shallow water, which helps a lot if you’re traveling with younger kids. There’s enough to do off the beach, too. Walk atop the medieval wall surrounding Alcudia Old Town or explore the shops and eateries hidden within the walls. Privadia, is a luxury villa supplier with more than 70 luxury villas in the island of Mallorca, direct to the owners, and has luxury vacation rental properties nearby perfect for accommodating multi-generational families.

Best for solitude: Port de Soller

Escape into the cliffside overlooking Port de Sóller for exclusive accommodations on Mallorca. This remote port town on the island’s Northwest shore puts you away from the busy tourist towns and nightlife for travellers seeking island serenity. Villas lodged into the cliffside offer breathtaking views of yachts docked in Port de Sóller and Sunset vistas over the Balearic Sea.

Explore charming local cafes and eateries surrounding the historic Plaza de la Constitución before riding the Tranvia de Sóller to the port for a boating or beach day.

    Best for outdoor enthusiasts: Deiá

Beachscapes to mountainscapes! Deià sits in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO-recognised mountain range that cuts through some of Mallorca’s most dramatic scenery. Down by the coast, Cala Deià is a popular spot for snorkeling. The rocky edges where clear water gives lots of visibility for the colourful marine life. Further inland, trek coastal trails like the Pirates’ Trail, where the walk opens up to wide cliffside views looking out over the sea. The coastal routes outside of Deia are also popular for cyclists.

    Best for sunrises: Pollença

The best sunrises in Mallorca are seen from Pollença on Mallorca’s northeast shore. Morning coffee on your private terrace is the Balearic way to start every day. And a morning dip in your infinity pool right as the sun casts its first golden rays of light on the island is something that that truly says “vacation has officially begun!”

Pollença is near the best sunrise spots on Mallorca. Set your alarm to wake up and make the short drive to Cap de Formentor Lighthouse, Mirador de Es Colomer, or pick a spot on Pollença Beach.

    Best for history: Valldemossa

Perched high on the hilltop, the history-rich Valldemossa is the highest town in the Balearic Islands. It immerses visitors into its local heritage, with history steeped in its main attractions.

Walk through time on the cobblestone Rectory Street winding through charming alleys showcasing traditional Mallorcan architecture. The 14th century Cartuixa de Valldemosa lets visitors peek into rooms that inspired legendary artists who stayed there. And the 14th century King Sanç Palace is a former royal retreat still preserved with its opulent authenticity.

    Introducing Ibiza

The heart of the Pityusic Islands and the Mediterranean’s most magnetic escape. Ibiza serves as the ultimate playground for dreamers and sun-seekers alike. Landing at Ibiza Airport (IBZ) or arriving by ferry at the Port of Ibiza, most visitors feel the island’s pull before they’ve even checked in. Life here is a brilliant mix; you can spend a morning wandering the cobbled heights of Dalt Vila’s historic fortress or an afternoon lost in the hippy markets of Es Canar. For a quiet swim, the turquoise waters of Cala Comte or the hidden cove of Cala Salada offer the perfect retreat. While taxis are plentiful, Privadia always recommends hiring a car is the best way to uncover the island’s secret beaches and rustic inland charm.

Best for partying: Playa D’en Bossa

Ibiza is the world’s party capital with the most iconic beach clubs located in Playa D’en Bossa. Travellers craving nightlife will love staying here where they’ll be immersed in the island’s party atmosphere.

Busy season is the best time to stay in this area. First-pumping and heart throbbing action inside major clubs like Ushuaïa Ibiza and Hi Ibiza host the biggest DJs and hottest day beach parties. Upscale accommodations host partygoers. And when it’s time to relax and recover, Playa d’en Bossa is the longest stretch of beach on Ibiza.

    Best for sunsets: San Antonio

Golden hour on the San Antonio Sunset Strip will be the highlight of every day of your Ibiza trip when you stay in this area. It’s famous for its coastal promenade, called Ses Variades, attracting sun seekers every evening to watch the sunset.

Join the crowds at Café Del Mar and Café Mambo for the daily spectacle. Be sure to stick around after the sunset. They have live music going on long after the sun goes down. Alternatively, pick a spot in the sand at Caló des Moro to enjoy the sunset vistas from the beach.

Best for culture and families: Santa Eulalia

Skip the party scene and discover the true Balearic culture in Santa Eulalia. It’s Ibiza’s 3rd largest town, but a far cry from the typical party atmosphere the island is known for. Instead, this area spotlights dining, shopping, sports, and culture.

Need retail therapy? Shop chic boho styles in boutique shops on Calle Sant Jaume. Looking for entertainment? Live plays at Teatre Espanya and rotating exhibits inside the Santa Eulalia Exhibition Hall are for cultural enrichment or pack your appetite for more than 250 restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Es Terral.

    Getting around the Balearic Islands

Island hop to get to know all the Balearic Islands. The islands of Ibiza and Mallorca each have excellent locations for your base. It’s easy to get to the other islands, Menorca and Formentera via daily ferry service. As for navigating the islands, car rentals are recommended and taxis or private chauffeur services are always available. Consider Privadia as luxury villa experts for more than a decade in the Balearic Islands and Destination Management Company, their professional and friendly team will be able to help you book your luxury villa holiday experience in these beautiful Mediterranean paradises.
