Refunds have been issued after problems with a car parking app impacted 10,000 customers, a council in Northern Ireland has been told.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council staff have assured elected members that residents affected by JustPark app charging issues have received refunds.

During April’s Environmental Services Committee meeting, council’s Director of Environmental Services, Aidan McPeake, said up to 10,000 constituents may have been affected by issues with the car parking app.

In March, Causeway Coast and Glens residents raised concerns about potential parking charge inconsistencies due to use of the app, and Alliance Councillor Lee Kane said he and his colleagues continue to receive reports from constituents who have encountered technical issues with JustPark, which is used at all council-run car parks.

Cllr Kane asked how many customers within the borough had been impacted, the total value of money charged in error, and any work council was doing in conjunction with JustPark to “mitigate against this happening again”.

Mr McPeake said it was his understanding that 10,000 customers were impacted throughout the borough and he was had since been informed that everyone affected had now been reimbursed.

In response to a follow-up question by Cllr Kane, Mr McPeake confirmed that the refunds were put through automatically, and he has had “assurances” from JustPark that the issue would not arise again.
