Pam Bondi, the now-former U.S. Attorney General, was facing rumors of a firing in early April 2026. Sources claimed that the AG, who previously served as the attorney general of Florida, had “frustrated” Donald Trump as of late. So, are the rumors true — is the American president firing Bondi, and if so, why?

Learn everything we know about Bondi’s future in Trump’s administration.

Is Pam Bondi Getting Fired?

Yes, according to an April 2, 2026, Truth Social statement, the president said she is “transitioning” to another role.

“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump began in his statement. “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Why Did Pam Bondi Get Fired as Attorney General?

Trump did not explain the reason behind Bondi’s job change, but NBC News previously reported that the Republican had grown “more and more frustrated” with Bondi, citing a source familiar with White House deliberations. The insider also claimed that, while Trump likes her personality, he still didn’t believe that Bondi had “executed on his vision” in the manner he wanted.

Nevertheless, Trump had previously insisted that Bondi “is a wonderful person, and she is doing a good job” in a statement to the outlet.

Who Is Replacing Pam Bondi as Attorney General?

As previously noted, Trump selected Todd Blanche to serve as Acting Attorney General while Bondi transitions out of the role. Blanche is an attorney and former prosecutor.

Some may recall that Trump hired Blanche to defend him in the hush-money accusations that Stormy Daniels brought forth.
