Head coach Adam Hollioake has revealed Kent brought in a “faith healer” in a bid to try and help get rid of their injury issues.

The county has been plagued by injuries, particularly within their bowling department, in the past two seasons as they have been relegated in the County Championship and finished bottom of Division 2.

“We got a faith healer in over the winter – or spirit healer – I’m not sure what their exact title was,” said Hollioake. “But it was someone to warden off the evil spirits.

“You’re laughing but it’s legit!”

Hollioake also divulged how he had been writing a report on their bowling injuries last year when Kent batsmen Ben Compton and Tawanda Muyeye collided with one another in a mid-pitch collision in a red-ball game against Lancashire, which ended in a draw in Canterbury in September.

He added: “I was actually sitting there, writing a report on our injuries.

“I had my head down in between balls and I think Ben Compton hit one out to the boundary so I put my head down and I was typing about how we have had so many injuries.

“Then, I heard what sounded like a car-crash! I looked up and our No.4 batsmen (Muyeye) had run head-first into our opening batsmen (Compton), so that was two more of them out.

“I’d actually said it was a ‘fast-bowling issue’… Then, I added ‘and a batting issue!’.”

Kent have confirmed a “non-denominational geopathic surveyor” visited the club over the winter.

“This visit was conducted to support the promotion of positive well-being ahead of the new season,” they said in a statement.

“The club’s approach to player welfare and injury prevention remains firmly rooted in professional sports science, including its strength and conditioning programmes, medical support, physiotherapy, and carefully managed training schedules.

“The visit did not replace, or have any influence over, any of these established practices.”

Kent will start their County Championship campaign from Friday, April 4, with an away match against Durham.
