A 26-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent

Police have made an arrest following an alleged assault which left a man in a ‘critical condition’ in Belfast City Centre.

PSNI officers received a request for assistance from colleagues in the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to attend Royal Avenue around 4:40pm on Saturday, March 14.

On arrival, an unconscious male had been located and was being provided with medical treatment by ambulance staff. He was taken to hospital and is understood to remain in a critical condition.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A 29- year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information which might assist – including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage – is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1024 of 14/03/26.
