In a decision notice published on February 18, Hastings Borough Council agreed to vary planning conditions covering Shearbarn Holiday Park in Barley Lane.
These conditions — linked to a 1990 planning consent — had required the holiday park to remain closed between January 16 and March 1 each year.
The holiday park has secured permission to amend this period to between January 5 and February 9 instead — meaning the business will have to close for five weeks each year, rather than six.
In a report setting out the reasons behind the decision to approve the change, a council planning spokesman said: “The revised opening period will include a five-week closure period, which will be brought forward earlier in the year to enable the park to be open during the February half-term.
“The change will essentially mean the site is open for one additional week and the closure period will start one week earlier in the year.
“These changes are not considered sufficient to create a material change to the character and appearance of the area and as such, the variation is not considered to cause significant harm to the character or appearance of the area.”
Officers made a similar determination in terms of the impact of the change on neighbouring properties, while also saying the variation would give “the opportunity for the holiday park to attract more visitors to the borough”.
The report says the council received two objections about the plans from the same household.·
According to the report, the objector argued there was a lack of justification for the change and the potential to harm tourism. These objections were not considered to be sufficient grounds for refusal by planning officers.
