Football fans in the EFL can expect things to heat up on the transfer front from this week onwards.
Monday, June 15, marks the first day of the summer transfer window, when clubs can officially register player deals with the Football League.
Clubs can make permanent and loan deals until 11pm on Tuesday, September 1, and the Gills still have plenty more announcements to make.
The Gills have already unveiled a trio of signings ahead of the transfer window opening, with deals agreed for James Brophy, Zane Albarus and Will Goodwin.
Brophy brings in creative energy on the left of midfield, big, hard-working forward Goodwin will be looking to make an impact, while Albarus will be tasting the Football League for the first time after moving from Brighton.
All three agreed two-year contracts with the Gills, but with 14 players leaving at the end of last season, there are plenty more deals to be finalised.
The Gills haven’t got a senior goalkeeper on the books and the only area where they look well-stocked is in the centre of midfield.
Gillingham will be looking to use the loan route to bolster their squad – a low-risk strategy. Southampton’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Ollie Wright is one player who has been linked after a solid season in League Two with Accrington Stanley last term, prompting his parent club to activate a one-year extension to his contract there.
The Gills will be hoping that a successful summer transfer window will mean they won’t need to make too many moves in the winter. The mid-season window for contracted player deals opens on Friday, January 1, 2027 and closes at 11pm on Monday, February 1.
Fans will be able to see some of Gills’ new faces for the first time when the pre-season schedule starts with a warm-up game at Dover in mid-July.
Excitement will be building ahead of the new season with fixtures announced 10 days from now, on Thursday, June 25. The Carabao Cup and Vertu Trophy draws are to be made on the same day.
