Morrisons says it will push on with its long-delayed Peacehaven supermarket redevelopment after months of fierce local pressure.
Chris Ward, MP Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, said he was glad Morrisons is still on track to submit a revised planning application in March.
Morrisons bosses say they want Lewes District Council’s planning committee to consider the new plans for the Meridian Centre by June.

The update marks a major turning point for the Meridian Centre site after the MP slammed a series of “unacceptable delays”.
Mr Ward has led a petition signed by more than 2,000 people and joined a protest in September demanding the chain “build it or sell it”.
He said the stalled project is still the biggest issue for people in Peacehaven and Telscombe.
The ongoing delays have previously been labelled as “a farce”.

Chris Ward MP said: “After so many unacceptable delays, I am relieved and optimistic that Morrisons remain committed to the timetable they previously promised.
“It is positive that the communication from Morrisons has improved and that they have reiterated their commitment to bring this forward.
“This progress would not have been possible without the strength of the community-led campaign.”
The MP said he will keep working with councillors to keep people informed at every stage.
He added: “What matters now is turning commitments into concrete action and finally delivering the supermarket and regeneration that Peacehaven deserves.”
Plans to replace the Meridian Centre in Peacehaven with a 27,000-square-foot Morrisons store were approved by Lewes District Council in April 2023, with work originally expected to start in September 2024.
In October 2025, Morrisons said it was still committed to the project but acknowledged the delays, citing supply chain issues and labour shortages.
