Areas such as Pulborough and Barcombe Mills have already seen considerable amounts of flooding after weeks of rain , with dramatic pictures showing water very close to properties.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for parts of West Sussex from noon today and is in place until just before midnight tonight.

The Met Office said: “Bands of rain and heavy showers will move east across southern parts of England and Wales during Monday afternoon and evening. 10-15 mm of rain is likely fairly widely with 20-30 mm in some places exposed to the strong south to southeasterly winds.”

The Environment Agency issued several alerts and warnings ahead of the weekend and many are still in place.
