Gillingham’s home defeat to Bromley on Saturday won’t have any impact on their transfer business in the next two days.
Premier League and EFL club have until 7pm on Monday to conclude deals, although manager Gareth Ainsworth won’t make any knee-jerk reactions following that loss.
The Gills are expected to complete the signing of Omar Beckles from Leyton Orient to bolster their defensive options but that deal was already in the pipeline before the 4-1 reverse against Bromley at Priestfield.
“We’ve done most of our work,” stated Ainsworth. “There’s a potential of one more coming in, and we’ve done all that work prior to the Bromley game.
“If I’d have lost three or four players in the same position, I would have had a look at something.
“But I’m quite happy with Ronan Hale coming in, Cameron Antwi coming in, a couple of re-signs like Lenni Cirino, and perhaps one more before the next game, which would be nice to get over the line.”
Asked if the Gills had to let one player leave in order to bring another new face into the building, Ainsworth responded: “No, there may be some outs as well. But at the moment, I’m hoping to add to the squad and then we’ll see where we are on Monday.”
The Gills boss is expecting a relatively quiet conclusion to the transfer window but he’ll be at Priestfield along with managing director Joe Comper and owners Brad and Shannon Galinson ready to react to any developments.
“I’ll be at the training ground and then I’ll be here with the recruitment team and MD,” explained the Gills boss.
“I think the owners, as well, will be knocking around. It’s always a good day, transfer deadline day, it’s always exciting.
“You have the TV on and see what everyone’s doing. I think it’s about number 30 for me, so I’m pretty used to this.
“I’ll be here late, making sure that if there are any last-minute wonder deals that come up, we will certainly be in the hat.
“But I like to get my business done early and a couple of days before the window is early enough. That’s all done now.
“If anything amazing comes up, I’m sure there’ll be a conversation about that.”
