Sussex Police responded to a call for concern for the welfare of a man at an address in Crawley on Friday, January 30.
The incident in Perryfield Road, Southgate, happened just after midday, and involved a suspected firearm.
Officers, including armed officers, attended the scene and detained a 66-year-old man.
The man was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully possessing a firearm. He remains in custody at this time, police said.
Inspector Dave Bulger said: “This was an isolated incident and we acknowledge the impact it may have had on the community and thank everyone for their patience and understanding while road closures were in place.
“Officers will continue patrols in the local area to provide reassurance and anyone who has concerns is encouraged to stop and talk with them.”
