A Traitors-themed projection has been beamed onto the iconic white cliffs of Dover, marking the start of the final week of the popular BBC show, with excitement mounting for Friday’s series finale.
Presented by Claudia Winkleman, The Traitors sees a group of 22 contestants – most known as ‘faithfuls’ – on a mission to identify the deadly traitors among them. These traitors eliminate players under the cover of darkness in a bid to secure a cash prize of up to £120,000.
Filmed in the stunning Scottish Highlands, the contestants participate in various challenges to add money to the prize pot and strive to uncover the traitors, expelling them during nightly roundtable discussions – and sending the nation into a stir in the process.
The show made its debut on New Year’s Day with a thrilling episode that, according to the BBC, attracted an average audience of 6.4 million viewers.
The show has gripped the nation throughout its four-week run, delivering dramatic twists including a secret traitor whose identity remained unknown to both contestants and viewers alike.
Ahead of the eagerly awaited finale, a Traitors-themed projection appeared on the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, one of Kent’s most celebrated natural landmarks.
Playing on the cliffs’ chalk composition, the message declared: “The time for chalk is almost over.”
The clever wordplay references host Winkleman’s signature phrase used to conclude roundtable discussions, signalling the moment when contestants must vote on who to banish from the castle next.
The 54 year old presenter is famous for announcing “the time for talk is over” to bring debates to a close.
Above the text sits the Traitors logo, flanked by projections of green and red firepits.
These images reference the “Fire Of Truth”, a crucial element in the show’s final episode where contestants determine whether to conclude the game or continue eliminating players.
Finalists cast their votes by selecting a pouch to throw into the flames. A red fire signals a vote to banish another player, whilst green indicates a decision to end the game.
Faithfuls opt to finish when they’re confident all traitors have been eliminated, allowing them to claim their share of the prize money.
The game concludes only when every remaining contestant votes to stop. If any traitors are still in the game, they walk away with the prize money, leaving the loyal players empty-handed.
The last week of The Traitors begins on Wednesday, following a suspenseful cliff-hanger on Friday night that left viewers on tenterhooks to see the outcome of a new, game-altering twist. This twist will grant one player a ceremonial dagger, giving them a double vote at the next roundtable discussion.
The upcoming episode will reveal which contestant has been bestowed this power. The Traitors carries on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday at 8pm.
