Complex clean-up works are still underway on the A2070 near Ashford after a fatal crash on Tuesday (January 13). At around 3.15pm, a silver Vauxhall Meriva was travelling south on the A2070 Ashford Road in Hamstreet when it was involved in a collision with a purple Volvo Tanker heading in the opposite direction.
The car then struck a barrier and the tanker jack-knifed, with a tractor unit leaving the road and entering a wooded embankment and an area next to a railway line, Kent Police said. Patrols attended the scene near the overbridge for Poundhurst Road, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
The car driver, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin has been informed. The tanker driver was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries.

Diversion route
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
- Diverted traffic leaves the A2070 at the Cloverleaf interchange.
- Continue on the A2042 towards the roundabout with Romney Marsh Road.
- Follow Romney Marsh Road south towards Hamstreet. Romney Marsh Road merges into Ashford Road, then Ham Street Road, and back to Ashford Road approaching Hamstreet.
- Before reaching Hamstreet, rejoin the A2070 via the on-slip.
Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol on road signs:
- Leave the A2070 at the junction with the B2067 Ashford Road slip near Hamstreet.
- Join Old Ashford Road and continue north.
- Follow Old Ashford Road as it becomes Ham Street Road, then Ashford Road.
- Continue along Ashford Road until it merges into Romney Marsh Road.
- Stay on Romney Marsh Road towards the roundabout with the A2042.
- At the roundabout, join the A2042 and continue to the Cloverleaf interchange.
- Rejoin the A2070 northbound via the on-slip at the interchange.
