Erin Doherty, who grew up in Crawley and now lives in Brighton, was recognised for her role in the limited series Adolescence at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes awards in Beverly Hills, California.

She plays clinical psychologist Briony Ariston, who supports a teenage boy accused of murdering a female classmate.

The series, also starring Stephen Graham, explores misogyny and harmful online content, and has fuelled national conversations in Parliament and schools.

Doherty, 32, is reported to have attended Hazelwick School in Crawley and previously played for the Crawley Wasps ladies’ football team.

She now lives in Brighton and has been known for sharing her favourite venues in the city, including Flour Pot Bakery and Plateau.

Doherty, who has previously also received awards for her role as a young Princess Anne in The Crown, dedicated her win to mental health professionals and said it was an “honour” to play one.

She has already received an Emmy for outstanding supporting actress for her role in Adolescence, in September 2025.

The show won multiple other Emmys including the award for best limited series, with additional wins for best actor for Stephen Graham and best supporting actor for Owen Cooper.

It received five Golden Globe nominations in total.

She is currently nominated for a SAG-AFTRA Actor Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or limited series.

She has previously won the award as part of The Crown cast in both 2020 and 2021.

At the Critics Choice Awards, Doherty won best supporting actress in a limited series or movie made for television.
