Coastguard rescue teams, Brighton RNLI inshore lifeboat, the police, the ambulance service and air ambulance were on the scene after a male swimmer got into difficulty in the water off Albion Groyne in Brighton this morning.
The helicopter was later seen taking off from the beach.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard responded to an incident involving a male swimmer in difficulty in the water off Albion Groyne in Brighton today, Thursday 1 January.
“First alerted at around 10.10am, coastguard rescue teams from Shoreham and Newhaven were sent alongside Brighton RNLI inshore lifeboat. South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police also attended.”
South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) and Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.
