Two men have been arrested after an elderly pedestrian died in a crash involving a Mercedes in Gillingham.

A large emergency service response rushed to the A289 Gads Hill shortly after midday on Monday, December 29 following reports of a collision involving a grey Mercedes estate and a pedestrian.

It is reported that the vehicle continued and was later found in Eastcourt Lane, where the two occupants had left on foot.

Police have said that the pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, had been carried by the car and was located on the ground at Grange Road.

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service treated the man but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Later the same day, investigators arrested two men in connection with the collision, a 29-year-old from Chatham and a 28-year-old of no fixed address.

They remain in police custody. Investigations into the fatal collision are ongoing and officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, to contact them.

Additionally police have released a CCTV image of a third man they wish to speak with as part of the investigation, which can be seen above, and have asked anybody who recognises him to call the appeal line.
