Police responded to reports of an altercation outside the Grace club in North Street, Brighton, at about 5.10am on Sunday, December 14.

A man sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing, police said. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

The 28-year-old was treated in hospital.

There is an increased police presence in the area while officers investigate this incident and to provide reassurance.

It is believed to have been an isolated incident.

A police cordon was in place in front of businesses in North Street.

The section of pavement from Smashburger to Timpson was cordoned off to pedestrians.

The road remained open as normal and officers were at the scene.

The cordon was removed in the early afternoon.

One business nearby said they had “no idea what had happened”.

The man said: “No one knows what has happened.

“People have been coming in with different rumours but no one knows. All we know is police have been here since 5am.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Witnesses or anyone with relevant information such as CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to come forward and report it to the police.

“Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 and quoting serial 184 of 14/12.”
