Causeyside Street in the Renfrewshire town was closed for around six hours near its junction with Stow Brae, following the collision.
Police Scotland has now revealed that a pedestrian is in critical condition after being hospitalised with serious injuries.
The driver of the car, a Kia Picanto, was unharmed.
Emergency services were called shortly after noon and the investigation continues.

Sergeant Fraser McEwan said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
“If you were driving in the area, please also check any dash-cam you have to see if anything has been captured that could assist with our investigation.
