Properties across Tunbridge Wells are still affected by the impacts of no water or low pressure. South East Water said running water has returned to almost all 24,000 households in the area.

Pembury Water Treatment Works continued to run well overnight, SEW said but those living on the highest ground in Tunbridge Wells may still be experiencing low pressure or intermittent supply while the final airlocks are being removed from the network.

A SEW spokesperson said: “We know how difficult and frustrating it has been for our customers and we are very sorry for the impact this has had – and continues to have.

“While we understand the frustration, we would like to ask people to respect our staff out in the field and at bottled water stations, who are working hard to do all they can to restore supplies and provide customers with water during this time.

“As water returns to customers’ taps, it may appear discoloured. This is normal and caused by naturally occurring iron and manganese deposits in our pipes. These deposits are harmless, but they can make the water look cloudy or brown.”

Bottled water station have reopened at 9am today at the following locations: Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre, St John’s Rd, TN4 9TX, Odeon car park, Knights Way, TN2 3UW, B&M Store with Garden Centre, Linden Park Road, Kent TN2 5QL.

A notice to boil water before drinking, washing up, preparing food or brushing teeth is expected to remain in place until at least 13 December.

The disruption has affected locals as well as GP surgeries, care homes, schools and businesses since Saturday (November 29).

Customers who experienced a failure in water supply and were issued with a boil water notice are subject to compensation from South East Water. The Ofwat website says customers are entitled to £50 for low water pressure, up to five payments per financial year.
