Police responded to a call about a man being recovered from the sea at Saltdean at 6.50pm this evening (July 2).
The man was treated by paramedics but was later pronounced dead.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police responded to a call about a man being recovered from the sea at Saltdean at 6.50pm on July 2.
“After being treated by paramedics, sadly he was pronounced dead.
“He has not been formally identified and police are making enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
“No further information is available at this time.”
