On The Beach begun yesterday evening (July 18) with thousands of people travelling to the city to enjoy DJ set from Friday’s headliner, Bonobo.

The Brighton-based DJ and musician, also known as Simon Green, was joined by special guest Sammy Virji.

The performances marked the first day of the seven-day festival, which spans across two weekends.

On The Beach hosts a range of different artists, with performers over the coming days including The Human League, Kaiser Chiefs, Hybrid Minds, and Bloc Party.



Organisers of the event described the festival as “unlike any other”.

It said: “This year, immerse yourself in a vibrant atmosphere where world-class music meets the iconic Brighton shoreline.

“With a diverse line-up featuring top artists like Bonobo, Eric Prydz, and Kaiser Chiefs, and the unique backdrop of the sea, it’s a festival experience unlike any other.

“Enjoy the sun, the sand, and the electric energy of live music, all in one amazing location.”

Sammy Virji on stage at On The Beach (Image: Mike Burnell) 2025 marks the festival’s fifth year in Brighton, with previous line-ups having included artists and DJs such as Fat Boy Slim, Chase and Status, and The Kooks.

Tonight, Swedish DJ Eric Prydz is due to take to the stage, as well as Vintage Culture and Massano.
