A warrant was executed by border force immigration officers and police on Layhams Road in West Wickham yesterday (February 18).

Three people were arrested in relation to suspicions that they could be removed from the United Kingdom.

One Brazilian man and one Brazilian woman are suspected of overstaying their leave to enter the country.

A Romanian woman is suspected of entering without the leave of an Immigration Officer.

The raid comes amid a government drive to increase raids on restaurants, car washes, nail bars, construction sites, and other businesses where illegal working is taking place.

It aims to increase arrests of illegal workers and the people who employ them.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are determined to clamp down both on illegal working and the exploitation of illegal workers.

“As part of our Plan for Change, this government is taking action against Organised Immigration Crime at every level, including stepping up our raids and increasing our arrests of illegal workers and the people who employ them.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson wrote on X: “Biggin Hill & Darwin Safer Neighbourhoods Team executed a warrant with Border Force down Layhams Road today.

“Three have been arrested for immigration offences.”
