The premises in question is located at 18 Southwick Square, in the centre of the town.

This site was formerly a Woolworths and, more recently, the oriental food store, Yun Feng Foods.

Letting agents Crickmay have listed the first-floor premises above the now-vacant unit for rent.

The listing states: “The property is located in the busy Southwick Square shopping thoroughfare, in the centre of Southwick, on the western edge of the Brighton and Hove conurbation.

“The neighbourhood shopping centre has undergone recent regeneration of the pedestrianised area adjacent to the subject premises.”

However, it is a line further down in the listing that catches the attention.

It states: “Please note that Crickmay have recently let the ground floor to Waitrose Limited”, suggesting that Waitrose will be moving into Southwick Square.

Currently, there is a Waitrose at 130-134 Western Road in Brighton, at 121 Nevill Road in Hove, and on Worthing High Street, as well as a Little Waitrose at the Shell garage at Shoreham Airport.

Yun Feng Foods, the oriental food store, shut down suddenly in March 2024.

At the time, the owners said they were looking for a new location to move to.

They directed customers to their other oriental food store on London Road in Brighton.

Waitrose have been contacted for further comment.
