Gillingham manager John Coleman has made the decision to remove Max Ehmer as matchday captain.
The Gills have lacked leadership on the pitch and Coleman has addressed the matter by making a change following a weekend loss at Barrow.
Coleman initially opted to leave Ehmer as skipper when he took charge a month ago.
The club’s recent home defeat to Notts County saw supporters vent their anger towards the captain, which he responded to, further infuriating some fans.
Coleman said at the time: “Max needs to be reminded that they’re the people who pay his wages.”
The manager spoke ahead of the weekend trip to Barrow about his captain needing to be more vocal.
The Barrow performance, which led to a 3-0 defeat, was the last straw for Coleman who had to make changes after describing the team’s performance as sickening.
He has now handed the captain’s armband to Armani Little ahead of Tuesday’s game at Walsall.
Ehmer was named club captain in the summer by former boss Mark Bonner, with Little as vice skipper. Ehmer will remain as club captain.
German defender Ehmer, who has clocked up over 400 appearances for the club, has led the Gills on the field under various managers, with Ady Pennock naming him skipper as far back as January 2017. He took over from Josh Wright at the time.
New captain Little is a summer signing from Wimbledon and when available the midfielder has been a regular starter under Bonner and now Coleman.
