Wilmington Primary School has successfully upheld its “Good” rating following its latest Ofsted inspection on December 3 and 4, 2024.
The report was released on January 28 and said that Headteacher Charlotte Scott, alongside the leadership of Endeavour MAT, help foster a strong community ethos and pupils are “proud of their school” and “keen to share their successes.”
Inspectors highlighted that this sense of pride “goes beyond their academic success to include the way that pupils are determined to engage with their local community.”
The school’s values—resilience, positivity, teamwork, compassion, and self-belief—are at the heart of its culture and are known and understood by everyone at the school.
Behaviour across the school was praised, with inspectors highlighting that pupils “behave exceptionally well” and that “all pupils are fully included in school life.”
The report also highlighted that the school provides carefully tailored support for pupils with the most complex needs, ensuring they can fully participate in all aspects of school life.
The curriculum at Wilmington Primary is designed to be inclusive and challenging for all pupils, offering structured learning that builds upon prior knowledge.
Ofsted noted that recent refinements in writing instruction have strengthened literacy skills, while a newly implemented phonics approach is ensuring pupils become fluent readers.
The report found that Wilmington Primary is a place where high expectations are set by staff, and pupils “aspire to exceed these.”
However, inspectors pointed out that “there are a small number of pupils who require more opportunities to deepen their learning and move on to more complex work.”
Similarly, in maths, “some pupils are not given enough practice before they move on to abstract concepts” which means that these pupils “do not consistently have a solid understanding of what they are being taught.”
The school has already started to address this by putting in resources to support deeper understanding.
Beyond academics, Wilmington Primary provides enriching opportunities such as educational visits and special events.
A recent Paralympic-themed day was particularly well received. The school’s engagement with the local community was also commended, with students taking pride in fundraising for the British Legion.
Staff at Wilmington Primary reported feeling “extremely well supported,” with Ofsted recognising the school’s efforts to ensure “staff workload is manageable and their well-being is reviewed regularly.”
