Rangers fan Jimmy Dott collapsed while in Benidorm with his wife Sarah and relatives have now been told that he has sepsis and potential spinal damage.

The Shettleston family launched a crowdfunding appeal in a bid to raise £15,000 to bring the 85-year-old back to Glasgow for treatment after being quoted over £30,000 for suitable medical transport.

After we broke the story yesterday and it went live here on GoFundMe, hundreds of people across the city have pledged.

By 2pm on Thursday, 263 people had given £6,690, including £500 from Dennistoun Rangers Flute Band.

Granddaughter Sarah Glass explained: “We are really grateful for people’s kindness.

“My granda is a very proud man and when he’s feeling better he will no doubt have words with me for asking for help. But I couldn’t stand by and watch my grandparents suffer financially when we are already worried sick about his well-being.”

Sarah who, works as a trainee nurse in Glasgow, flew out to Spain on Sunday with other family members to be by the Shettleston couple’s side.
