Kerrie Lavery suffered the life-changing injury after she and her friend, Alanah Boyle, were mowed down by Thomas Granger as they returned home from a mental health charity event.
During the shocking incident, Granger was speeding in his white BMW 220d Sport along Great Western Road in Clydebank, where he collided with the pair near a pedestrian crossing.
They then decided to walk home after failing to get a taxi. During this time, they stopped at a petrol station for refreshments and then walked to a pedestrian crossing to cross the busy road.
However, as they did, Granger mowed them down.
Investigators and CCTV analysis found he was driving at around 81mph in a 40mph zone.
Granger then kept driving until Drumry roundabout where he turned to revisit the scene of the crime.
Others in the group of pedestrians, who were with Kerrie, thought he was just a passer-by and asked him to call an ambulance.
But when they realised he was the culprit, he fled. Police caught him about 40 minutes later.
In May 2024, we reported how Granger was caged for 33 months and banned from driving for seven years after he was convicted of causing serious injury by driving dangerously and failing to stop at the scene.
Last year legal papers at the Court of Session confirmed a claim was underway to secure a lifetime’s supply of medical treatment for Miss Lavery and lawyers have confirmed this action has now been successfully settled.

Chris Stewart, Partner at Digby Brown Solicitors, said: “What happened to Kerrie was agonising and life-changing and something no young mother should have to endure.
“I can’t comment on specifics around the civil claim but I can confirm the action has now been settled which means Kerrie can access the best possible medical treatment for the rest of her life as well as secure her financial future after the crash impacted her ability to work.
“Kerrie has already proven her strength and determination throughout her recovery from physios to prosecution hearings to simply staying upbeat for her wee boy, of course, there are hard days but I know she also has a positive and tight-knit network of friends and family who offer support.
“I hope that Kerrie, Alanah and their families may now have the means to move forward into the peaceful and positive future they deserve.”
Following Granger being locked behind bars in 2024, Kerrie welcomed the jailing of the hit-and-run motorist.
