According to a study by WhatPrice.co.uk, Crawley and Brighton and Hove are some of the country’s priciest places for fuel.
Crawley is said to have the joint most expensive petrol prices in the UK, alongside Cambridge, Poole, and Bournemouth, with a median price of £1.40 per litre.
Drivers in these towns pay an average of £70 each time they fill their tanks, £1.50 more than the national average.
The study found that petrol in Crawley is even more costly than in London.
With regard to diesel, Cambridge was found to be the most expensive place in the UK, with prices at £1.47 per litre.
Crawley and Brighton and Hove came in joint second place, with an average diesel price of £1.46 per litre, the same price as London.
The study analysed median petrol and diesel prices in the UK’s most populous cities. Fuel price data was collected from WhatPrice.co.uk on January 15.
Belfast was found to be the cheapest place in the UK for both petrol and diesel, with median prices of £1.32 per litre for petrol, and £1.35 for diesel.
David Holmes, CEO of WhatPrice.co.uk, said: “While some places, such as Cambridge and Crawley, may rank as the most expensive, this does not mean affordable fuel is unavailable there – you might simply need to search more thoroughly.”
