Kent Police has confirmed it is investigating the suspected arson that took place in Suffolk Road at around 8.28pm on January 20.

Footage from the scene of the incident shows a large HGV lorry parked in a loading bay, with flames burning through the canvas on the cargo hold.

Three fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident and extinguished the blaze after hours of work.

A 39-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested later that evening in connection to the incident.

The lorry destroyed in the fire is believed to belong to a local store called Nice Price, located in the Orchards Shopping Centre.

The business, which has been operating for around 17 years, posted a video to Facebook appealing for support.

They said: “We are a local, independent business that has had a little bit of a blow.

“We’re going to come back fighting and even stronger but we’ve lost a lorry, we’ve lost a lot of stock.”

There were no reports of injuries in connection to the incident.

A spokesperson for the Police said: “Kent Police is investigating a suspected arson to a lorry in Suffolk Road, Dartford.
