A youth and sports centre forced to close as a result of stinging council budget cuts has gone up for sale.
New House in Chalkwell Road, Sittingbourne, had been home to countless teams and events over the years and had been a valuable asset to the community before its closure late last year.
It was one of 35 facilities originally earmarked for closure in January 2023 as cash-strapped owners Kent County Council looked to cut back on spending.
Described as “a unique facility that has and could have offered so much more to the community with the right level of management, attention and thought leadership within KCC” by its table tennis club, it will be auctioned off by Clive Emson.
The site has been described as offering a “fabulous opportunity” for builders and developers.
It comes with a guide price of £500,000
The four-storey Victorian building has a sports hall with a high-quality basketball court, a theatre and stage, shower rooms and multiple offices.
Auctioneer Kevin Gilbert said: “It consists of all the things you might expect from a sports centre but could now be turned into something else, as long as all necessary consents are obtainable.
“This lot is a fabulous opportunity and we anticipate interest from builders and developers.”
