A narrow lane cordoned off after a building was found to be at risk of collapse is set to be shut for at least a week while hoardings are put in place.
Residents from five properties had to temporarily evacuate their homes on Thursday night after a structure in Flying Horse Lane, Dover was spotted to be tilting outwards towards the street.
Police worked throughout the evening to ensure neighbours of the structurally compromised property were taken to safety.
The road was subsequently closed in both directions on Thursday afternoon when contractors were spotted putting two metal barriers in place due to fears of falling bricks.
More were then placed in the narrow lane alongside additional ‘do not cross’ tape shortly afterwards.
Now, several days later, the road continues to be closed off to the public and is expected to remain that way until at least Thursday night.
A spokesman for Dover District Council (DDC) said: “The council continues to liaise with the owner of the building.
“Last week, the owner put up a retaining scaffold.
“The owner is now providing a hoarding around the base of the scaffold and he will be undertaking further works with respect to the roof in due course.”
The problem occurred when a structural issue with the roof resulted in a bulge to the front wall of the property.
The people who were evacuated have now returned to their homes.
