Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi,is very much interested in Tesla’s robotaxis. The CEO shared that he would “love” to feature robotaxis as an option on Uber’s app when it becomes available. Khosrowshahi mentioned three possibilities: Uber could compete with Tesla, partner with them, or try a mix of both. He explained that Tesla’s decisions would shape the path Uber takes.

While Tesla’s robotaxi plans raise new questions, Uber’s existing network gives it an advantage. Its partnerships with companies like Waymo and Cruise have strengthened its position, making it easier to adapt to changing conditions. Khosrowshahi made it clear that Uber is open to collaboration, even with competitors like Tesla. Whether it chooses to work with Musk or compete against him, Uber’s ability to adjust will be key to staying relevant.

Tesla had introduced its new autonomous vehicle, the Cybercab, at the recent “We, Robot” event in California. Khosrowshahi believes there is room for a partnership for sure, especially considering considering how Uber’s ride hailing experience could complement Tesla’s focus on technology. If Tesla’s doesn’t want to partner, and compete instead, Uber is prepared to respond.

With production for the Cybercab expected around 2026 or 2027, Uber still has time to prepare. Whether cooperation or competition comes first, Uber will need to find ways to maintain its standing in this market that is seemingly becoming more advanced, thanks to tech.

How Is Uber Working With Autonomous Vehicle Companies Now?

Uber has partnered with several autonomous driving firms to bring self-driving rides to customers. In the United States, it works closely with Waymo and Cruise, providing driverless transport in specific regions. This approach helps Uber stay active in the market while avoiding the high cost of developing its own technology.

In the UK, Uber has invested in Wayve, a British startup developing autonomous vehicle solutions. This partnership brings new technology to Uber’s platform and helps expand its presence in cities seeking modern transport options.

Alliances would make it easier for companies like Uber to focus on growing its services without the issue of needing of creating new technologies from scratch. This model makes it so that that Uber can continue bringing its clients advanced services through partnerships with leading companies.

How Is Uber Preparing To Be More Sustainable?

Uber has made progress toward becoming a zero-emission platform, with a goal set for 2040. So far, more than 182,000 electric vehicles operate on its network, with many drivers choosing Tesla models. Electric vehicles have gained popularity with Uber drivers thanks to lower fuel costs and ease of maintenance.

The company’s growing electric fleet aligns with increasing passenger interest in environmentally friendly travel. Uber’s focus on electrification also helps it stay ahead in cities with tighter emissions rules, making it a preferred option for customers who value green alternatives.

And as much as electric vehicle services are helping Uber meet its own environmental targets, it also puts it well in an industry leaning toward cleaner transport. The focusing on electric vehicles helps Uber’s goal of creating a more sustainable service that can be relied on, in the long run.
