The Environment Agency has enforced seven alerts for possible river flooding today, while flooding is expected at the Kidbrooke Stream and River Medway near Crawley.
Residents in Priory Road, Swans Ghyll, Riverside and Blenheim in Forest Row are at “immediate risk” and have been told to “act now” as “flooding to properties is expected imminently”.
A yellow weather warning for rain was issued by the Met Office for Sunday covering West Sussex from Worthing to Chichester and close to Crawley.
Flooding of roads and low-lying lands is possible, although property flooding is not expected, in and around the following locations:
- River Mole and its tributaries from Kinnersley Manor to South Hersham
- Rivers Eden and Eden Brook
- Upper River Medway
- Upper River Mole, Ifield Brook, Gatwick Stream and Burstow Stream
- River Rother and its tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal
- Upper Ouse between Ardingly and Barcombe
- Cuckmere River
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “Weather conditions are expected to improve Tuesday morning and no further flooding is expected.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and clearing debris from weed screens.
“Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
