Selena Gomez gave the Telluride High School volleyball team an unforgettable surprise during her weekend at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. The 32-year-old Emmy Award nominee paid a special visit to the students after they requested her presence to sing the national anthem at one of their games.

In an Instagram post, Selena shared a photo of an orange sign the athletes had made, inviting her to sing at their games scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The next slide in her post featured a video capturing the moment she walked into the high school gym, where the excited students greeted her with cheers and eager phones ready to record. “I saw the sign [you made],” Selena told the thrilled crowd.

Her Instagram carousel also included a group photo with the volleyball team and several candid shots of her interacting with other fans. “They asked!!” the Only Murders in the Building star captioned her post, adding, “Couldn’t help it, it’s my first time in Telluride!”

Several celebrities reacted to her post, including her boyfriend Benny Blanco, who commented with heart-eyed and red heart emojis, and actress Zoe Saldana, who praised Selena’s kindness.

The Telluride Middle and High School’s Instagram account also shared the moment, thanking the “Single Soon” singer for her visit with a post that read, “Thanks @selenagomez for visiting TMHS and showing love to our volleyball teams!”

After the surprise visit, Selena attended the 2024 Telluride Film Festival to promote her latest film, Emilia Pérez. During a panel discussion with her co-stars Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofía Gascón, the actresses paid tribute to their director, Jacques Audiard. Selena expressed her gratitude in another Instagram post, writing, “Thank you so much for having me, Telluride!! We are so grateful to share our work with you all and honor Jacques! I had such a wonderful time.”

Following the festival, Selena spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her preparation for the film, admitting she was initially intimidated by the director. “I was very terrified to meet Jacques,” she revealed. “I rehearsed for three months and didn’t think I’d get this role because I’m not fluent. But with Jacques’ guidance and the support of my co-stars, we figured out a version of the character that worked for me.”
