Kesha launches into the 4th of July celebrations with her latest track, “Joyride,” marking her return to the pop scene since settling her legal dispute with record producer Dr. Luke. The upbeat song revisits her pop origins, featuring lyrics like, “Are you a man? ‘Cause I’m a bitch / I’m already rich, just looking for that (Mm) / This party sucks, I’m ’bout to ditch,” followed by a catchy chorus urging listeners to “Rev my engine ’til you make it purr / Keep it kinky, but I come first / Beep-beep, bitch, I’m outside / Get in, loser, for the joyride.”

Referencing the iconic line from Mean Girls, the lyric “Get in, loser” adds a playful touch to the track. This release comes ten years after Kesha accused Dr. Luke of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 2014, a claim that led to a protracted legal battle. In 2016, all abuse allegations against Dr. Luke were dismissed by a judge due to the statute of limitations.

The contentious legal saga between Kesha and Dr. Luke finally concluded in June 2023, with both parties releasing statements announcing the end of their dispute. Kesha expressed her desire to move forward, while Dr. Luke reiterated his denial of the allegations and his intention to put the matter behind him for the sake of his family.

In December 2023, Kesha parted ways with Dr. Luke’s label, Kemosabe Records, following the release of her album Gag Order, fulfilling her contractual obligations.
