“Passengers heading to a station in Kent are facing significant disruptions following an incident where a person was struck by a train.

The incident occurred on the Southern line, which connects to Ashford International, between Eastbourne and Bexhill in East Sussex.

A spokesperson for the operator shared on X (formerly Twitter), ‘We regretfully report that a person has been struck by a train between Eastbourne and Bexhill. All services on this route are currently suspended as emergency services respond to the situation.’

The Southern Railway website further states, ‘There will be a severely reduced service between Eastbourne, Lewes, and Haywards Heath, as well as between Bexhill, Hastings, and Ashford International. Some trains on these routes will be cancelled.’

Southern strongly advises customers to refrain from travelling until the lines are reopened, expected around 4 pm.

Passengers affected and aiming to reach Ashford are encouraged to use their tickets at no additional cost on Southeastern services between Hastings and London, and between Ashford International, Tonbridge, and London. Stagecoach services between Polegate, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Rye, and Hamstreet to Ashford International are also available for use.”
